Dr. Carla works with individuals, couples, and families to create safe spaces for identity and emotional exploration, understanding, and expression. She uses a client-centered and culturally-responsive approach to therapy, using mindfulness and experiential practices, to better understand the lived experiences of her clients. Dr. Carla deeply believes everyone – every individual, couple, and family – already has within/among them the power to live their best lives; she is simply a guide through that journey.
Dr. Carla earned a PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) degree in Human Development and Family Science, with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy, from the University of Georgia. A “double dawg”, she also earned a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree, with a specialization in Clinical Treatment with Children and Families, and a certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy. Dr. Carla is originally from New Jersey and has made Atlanta home since 2006. She is dually licensed in the state of Georgia as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). She has specialized training in culturally-responsive therapy, Gottman Method Couple Therapy, play therapy, and experiential therapy. She is also interested in Emotionally Focused Therapy and Restorative Justice therapeutic methods.
Dr. Carla has the following therapeutic specialties: identity formation and expression; cultural expression; trauma; anxiety; depression; perinatal anxiety and depression; family formation; pre-marital therapy; couples therapy; family therapy; and cultural identity development. She works with children; adolescents; adults; couples; parents; and families. She prides herself on maintaining a diverse client load and creates a safe, inclusive space for all clients with multiple perspectives, identities, and belief systems.
In her free time, Dr. Carla loves to be with her family, travel, and practice yoga.
Currently, Dr Carla is out of the office until November at which time she will set office hours.
